The entry page shows a concept in full: all of its designations across all languages, their attributes, and its relations to other concepts.

Concept, designation, attribute

Telling these three levels apart explains the layout of the page:

• The concept is the thing itself, across languages. It has no name of its own — it has designations.
• A designation is a word for that concept in one language. Several per language are normal (synonyms); exactly one of them is the preferred designation and is highlighted.
• Attributes belong to a designation: definition, source, context, comments, status.

Designations that are discouraged are marked deprecated. They are shown on purpose: someone who knows the concept by that word should find it — and see which designation to use instead.

Grammatical information

Where recorded, a designation carries its part of speech and gender. Both are optional and are maintained mainly where they matter for translation.

Concept relations

Links to broader terms, narrower terms and related terms follow the ISO 25964 model. They lead straight to the respective entry and open up the neighbourhood of a concept.

Permalink and citation

An entry's address is permanent: it is derived from the preferred designation when the entry is created and does not follow along when that designation is corrected later. A link you set once stays valid.

• Permalink copies the address to the clipboard.
• Cite gives you a ready-made citation with concept and address.

Suggesting a correction

If something on the page is wrong or incomplete, suggest a correction takes you to the feedback form — with the entry and the designation already filled in.
